Michigan's New Background Check Law

Effective February 13th, Michigan's background and firearm registration law is changing.

The most considerable change for our non CPL customers, you will first need to complete and receive a License to Purchase which is a new backbround check at the local governmental level. Customers can obtain this license at their local police department. This will be required on all firearms purchases unless you have a valid CPL.

An RI-60, Firearm Sales Record, now must be completed on all firearms sales, not only pistols. The seller is responsible for turning this over to the licensing agency for pistols, there is no requirement at this time to turn in sales records for long guns.

In summary, if you have a CLP you do nothing different but a sales record (RI-60) will be completed on all sales, not just pistols. If you DO NOT have a CPL, in order to purchase any firearm you will need to first receive a License to Purchase from your local law enforcement agency.
